How long does eyebrow tint last

How Long Does Eyebrow Tint Last?

Three to four weeks is the honest answer for most people. You’ll see the colour start to soften around week three, and by week four it’s usually time for a touch-up. Some get closer to five or six weeks — but that depends on several things that are actually within your control.

Why the range is so wide

The colour sits on the hair shaft, not inside it the way a permanent dye works. That means anything that strips or breaks down surface pigment will shorten the lifespan.

Skin type matters a lot. Oily skin produces more sebum, which acts as a natural solvent for the tint. If your brow area runs oily, expect colour to fade faster — three weeks rather than four or five.

Skincare products. Retinoids, glycolic acid, and other chemical exfoliants accelerate fading if they get near your brows. Same with oil-based cleansers and makeup removers used around the eye area.

Sun exposure gradually bleaches the pigment, just as it lightens hair. Nothing dramatic day-to-day, but it adds up.

How you wash your face. Rubbing the brow area vigorously or using hot water breaks down the colour faster than a gentle, lukewarm rinse.

Hair growth cycle. New hairs grow in untinted. As that happens, the brows naturally look lighter — not because the existing tint has faded, but because there’s more uncoloured hair in the mix.

The first few days look different

The colour is darkest right after tinting — sometimes noticeably darker than expected. It softens within the first two to three days as the surface skin stain fades. That’s normal. What’s left on the hair itself is what stays for the following weeks.

How to make it last longer

Avoid wetting your brows for 24 hours after tinting. That’s when the colour is setting and most vulnerable.

After that: use an oil-free or micellar cleanser around the brow area, pat dry instead of rubbing, and keep strong actives (retinol, acids) away from that zone. Sun protection on the face helps too — a hat works better than sunscreen directly on tinted brows.

Lashes vs brows — different timelines

If you’re tinting both brows and lashes in one session, keep in mind that lash tint typically fades a bit faster, because lashes shed more quickly and are exposed to more friction from rubbing eyes and removing eye makeup.

For lashes specifically, you need a tint that’s formulated for both areas. The Demure Color Gel is approved for brows and lashes together. The Demure Scintilla Cream is brows only.

When to re-tint

Most people settle into a four-week schedule. If you notice the front of your brows fading faster than the tail — which often happens — that’s normal, the hair there is usually finer. You can apply tint just to that area for a touch-up without redoing the whole brow.
